Born in 1908, he co-founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France alongside guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1934, establishing one of the earliest all-string jazz ensembles. Recognized as a pioneering figure in jazz violin, Grappelli earned recognition as a foundational influence on generations of jazz violinists. He maintained an active performance schedule throughout his life, continuing to give concerts internationally well into his eighties until his death in 1997.
