The Standells are an American garage rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in the early 1960s. Frequently described as proto-punks, they wielded significant influence on later punk pioneers, including the Sex Pistols and Ramones. The group achieved their most enduring success with the 1966 single "Dirty Water," penned by their producer Ed Cobb. The track transcended its initial chart performance to become deeply embedded in Boston sports culture, serving as the official victory anthem for the Red Sox and Bruins following home wins.
