Smokey Robinson & The Miracles were an American vocal ensemble from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 1955. As Motown Records' inaugural successful recording artists, they became instrumental in shaping popular music history across pop, soul, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll. The group's rise to international prominence during the 1960s coincided with Motown's broader cultural impact, significantly increasing the mainstream acceptance of R&B and pop music throughout the United States. Their contributions proved fundamental to the development of modern popular music, establishing them among the most influential groups of their era before disbanding in 1978.
