Sly & the Family Stone

Sly and the Family Stone was an American band formed in San Francisco in 1966, led by multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone alongside his siblings Freddie and Rose Stone. The group's rotating lineup featured members including saxophonist Jerry Martini, bassist Larry Graham, and drummer Greg Errico. Their music synthesized funk, soul, psychedelic rock, gospel, and R&B into a distinctive sound that profoundly shaped American popular music. Notably, the band was among the first major rock groups in the United States to feature a racially integrated and mixed-gender ensemble, breaking significant cultural barriers during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
