The Shangri-Las were an American girl group that emerged in 1963, comprising Mary Weiss, her sister Betty, and twin sisters Marge and Mary Ann Ganser. Active until 1968, the group became prominent between 1964 and 1966 with a series of commercially successful pop recordings that explored themes of teenage hardship and emotional turmoil. Their best-known work, "Leader of the Pack," reached number one on the US charts in late 1964. Other notable hits included "Remember" and "Give Him a Great Big Kiss." The group remains influential in the girl group genre, with Betty Weiss as the sole surviving member following Mary Weiss's death in 2024.
