Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs were an American garage rock and rock and roll group active from 1964 to 1967. Led by vocalist Domingo Samudio, known professionally as Sam the Sham, the band achieved significant commercial success during the mid-1960s with multiple Top 40 hits. Their most notable recording, "Wooly Bully," ranked as Billboard's top song of 1965, though it never topped the weekly charts. Additional chart success came with "Li'l Red Riding Hood." Sam the Sham became known for his distinctive visual presentation, performing in a camp robe and turban while transporting equipment in a customized 1952 Packard hearse lined with maroon velvet curtains.
