Ronnie James Dio was an American heavy metal vocalist whose career spanned multiple decades and bands. Born Ronald James Padavona, he became one of the genre's most respected singers, known for his powerful voice and technical ability. Dio fronted several influential acts including Elf, Rainbow, and Black Sabbath, where he replaced Ozzy Osbourne. He also led his own band, Dio, and later performed with Heaven & Hell. Active from 1982 until his death in 2010, he remained a prominent figure in heavy metal and hard rock throughout his tenure.
