The song was composed by Lee Hazlewood, who initially recorded it with Suzi Jane Hokom. The more commercially successful rendition featured Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra and was released in 1967. In 1969, Hazlewood performed the song on Swedish television with local artist Siw Malmkvist as part of the Together programme, which was subsequently broadcast at the Montreux festival.
