The Aquatones
The Aquatones were an American doo-wop ensemble that emerged during the 1950s vocal group era. The group was fronted by Lynne Nixon, a soprano vocalist who brought formal operatic training to the ensemble at just seventeen years old. Active from 1956 onward, the Aquatones helped define the doo-wop sound of their era, blending Nixon's classically-trained voice with the group's harmonies. Their work exemplified the crossover appeal between operatic technique and popular vocal group music that characterized much of 1950s American music.
