Nightwish is a symphonic metal band from Kitee, Finland, established in 1996 by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and vocalist Tarja Turunen. The ensemble expanded to include drummer Jukka Nevalainen and bassist Sami Vänskä, with Marko Hietala later joining as bassist and male vocalist in 2001. Following their debut album Angels Fall First in 1997, the group achieved significant domestic success and gradually built an international audience through subsequent releases including Oceanborn, Wishmaster, and Century Child, establishing themselves as a prominent force in progressive and symphonic metal.
