Naftali Herz Imber (1856–1909) was a Hebrew-language poet from Ukraine whose literary contributions significantly influenced Jewish cultural expression. He is best remembered for composing "Hatikvah," a poem that later became the foundation of Israel's national anthem. Active throughout the latter half of the nineteenth century, Imber's work in Hebrew poetry played an important role in the intellectual and cultural movements of his era. His enduring legacy rests primarily on this single composition, which transcended its original literary context to become a symbol of national identity.
