Mohd Rafi was an Indian playback singer widely regarded as one of the most significant vocal artists of the Indian subcontinent. Active from 1924 to 1980, Rafi was celebrated for his exceptional vocal versatility, performing across diverse musical styles including patriotic songs, romantic pieces, qawwalis, ghazals, bhajans, and classical compositions. His distinctive ability to adapt his voice to match the on-screen persona of actors made him invaluable to Hindi cinema. Over his career, Rafi received six Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. He was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 1967, and posthumously recognized as the "Best Singer of the Millennium" in 2001 and voted greatest voice in Hindi cinema in 2013.
