Meiko Kaji is a Japanese actress and singer born in 1947. Beginning her career in the 1960s, she became a prominent figure in Japanese cinema during the 1970s, starring in over 100 film and television productions. She is best remembered for her portrayals of rebellious characters in iconic film series including Stray Cat Rock, Wandering Ginza Butterfly, Female Prisoner 701: Scorpion, and Lady Snowblood. Alongside her acting work, Kaji maintained an active recording career, performing in the enka and kayōkyoku genres. She notably contributed original theme songs to several films in which she also performed, combining her dual talents as both actress and recording artist.
